Technical Tip
Think Links

Fusible links are a vital part of the closing mechanism for any fire door protection system. A new DASMA Technical Data Sheet (TDS 255) provides helpful tips for selecting, installing, and maintaining fusible links for fire door systems.

TDS 255 includes several recommended maintenance tips for facility managers or others who are responsible for fire door systems. For example:

Inspect fusible links annually for evidence of corrosion or stress. In high-corrosive areas, check links every six months.

· Consider annual replacement in severe conditions such as corrosive or greasy atmospheres.

· Fusible links that have been inadvertently painted must be replaced immediately.

· Dirty fusible links should be cleaned or replaced.

· Shield fusible links from any water spray to avoid corrosion.

Fusible links are a key component of the life-safety features of a fire door system. Failure to maintain links properly may create a potentially hazardous situation for your customer.

TDS 255 was prepared by the members of DASMA’s Rolling Door Technical Committee. To obtain a free copy of TDS 255, contact DASMA at 216-241-7333, fax 216-241-0105, or dasma@dasma.com.
