Fire Door Releases: What are Your Options?
All rolling steel fire doors must include a “release,” i.e., some method of closing the door automatically in a fire. As a door dealer, your customer looks to you for expertise on these doors and the release options that are available.
Technical Data Sheet (TDS) 258 was prepared by DASMA’s Rolling Door Technical Committee to summarize the important details about release options. The document includes:
• The pertinent requirements of NFPA 80-99.
• The two basic design types of automatic closing mechanisms on rolling fire doors.
• The differences between closing mechanisms with and without a dropout.
• A chart that illustrates various release options for doors with or without a dropout, and with or without motor operation.
• The four basic resetting requirement options.
• The three basic release devices.
• Safety considerations.
Technical Data Sheet (TDS) 258 on Fire Door Releases is free of charge and can be obtained by contacting DASMA at 216-241-7333, fax 216-241-0105, or dasma@dasma.com.
