EPA Delays RRP Certification Deadlines

EPA Delays RRP CertificationOn June 18, the EPA announced that it will not take enforcement action—until Oct. 1, 2010—against renovation firms for violations of the Lead Paint RRP Rule’s certification requirement. Further, the EPA has given renovation workers until Sept. 30 to apply/enroll for a certified renovator class, but you must complete the training by Dec. 31, 2010.

Note: Even though the certification deadlines have been extended, the requirements to use all EPA lead-safe work practices (notification, containment, clean-up, protective gear, recordkeeping, etc.) are still in effect.

Other Late-Breaking News:

  • Starting July 6, you must provide homeowners and occupants the new version of "Renovate Right" booklet.
  • Massachusetts has announced its intention to take over the state’s RRP program on July 9.

$1,500 Energy Tax Credit
Still in Effect

Energy Tax CreditCongress continues to deliberate a bill that affects the $1,500 U.S. energy tax credit for qualifying garage doors. However, thanks to DASMA input, the tax credit appears to be safe for the remainder of 2010, even if the bill is defeated.

Bottom Line: You can continue to promote the tax credits exactly as you did in 2009.
