On May 15, Dateline NBC turned its hidden cameras on garage door technicians in a special Hansen Files episode. A technician from Precision Door of Phoenix was caught charging $527 to replace a brand new opener.

On June 23, D&AS editor Tom Wadsworth passed the exam to become the industry's first Certified Door Dealer Consultant under the new 2011 IDEA program. The program, launched on June 1, is designed for manufacturer sales reps and other key industry suppliers.
