DASMA Input May Save
Tax Credit
Thanks to DASMA input, the $1,500 U.S. energy tax credit for qualifying garage doors is currently poised for approval for the remainder of 2010.
On March 3, DASMA received a phone call from an aide to Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), seeking our input into a legislative amendment to H.R. 4213. Within minutes after that call, our proposed language was added. On March 10, the Senate approved the bill and sent it to the House for final approval.
Congress is now in recess. If the bill is approved by the House and signed by the president, you will be able to continue to promote the tax credit exactly as you did in 2009. As for now, the tax credit is still in effect. But stay tuned. |

EPA: Lead Paint Rules
Apply to You
On March 19, Dr. Maria Doa, the director of the EPA’s National Lead Paint Program told Door & Access Systems that the EPA’s new Lead Paint Rule applies to garage door installers/technicians.
She says that garage door technicians, effective April 22, 2010, must be “trained and certified, and their firm needs to be a certified firm.” To be certified, submit the $300 application form. For more information, see the EPA’s 34-page Small Entity Compliance Guide.
DASMA and IDA leaders are studying the extensive Lead Paint regulations. Watch for upcoming announcements from these associations.
